MacOS Certified Desktop computers with Nudge enabled may get a prompt that "This device requires a security update" but after following the on screen install directions no updates are shown as available. This is due to a community-identified bug in the Software Update app used by macOS. The Desktop Engineering team estimates that 10% of all Certified Desktop macOS computers are affected by this bug.

All MacOS computers can be affected by the Software Update bug. Unless you are using Nudge, you may not be aware of it.

To fix this problem, reboot your computer and then manually check for software updates.

If you still are unable to update your operating system, please contact the IT Service Desk or your local IT Technical Support Group.

Keeping your macOS current is an easy way to help protect you and the university against malware attacks. Check for updates!
