VPN Service Enhanced

March 23, 2010

In February 2010, the Cornell Virtual Private Network (VPN) service was updated. VPN provides the Cornell community with secure, authenticated remote access to campus networks and services. Units can continue to use departmental VPN pools to restrict access to individuals identified by and working within the unit.

The service now uses the Cisco AnyConnect client with the following enhancements.

  • A 64-bit client that uses SSL protocols.

  • Quick, easy, one-step installation from the web.

  • No need to download and install PCF (configuration) files for the campus VPN or departmental pools.

Current users are not required to make any changes, however they should feel free to upgrade to the new client at any time.

To install and begin using the AnyConnect client, go to http://cuvpn.cuvpn.cornell.edu.

  • To connect to the Cornell campus VPN, login with your NetID and NetID password.

  • To connect to a departmental VPN, login with your NetID followed by the departmental pool name ( for example NetID@pool.name) and your NetID password.

Step-by-step instructions are on the VPN How To pages. More information about the VPN service is available on the VPN pages.
