Matlab Licensing

About

MATLAB is a numerical computing environment and programming language. We currently two licenses, with different sets of toolboxes. MATLAB licensing is fee-based.

  • Academic licensing for staff and faculty
    • Cornell University's academic license for MATLAB includes the base application and 49 additional toolboxes.
    • Academic licensing must be paid for by Cornell departmental funds.
    • Installation onto Cornell-owned equipment only.
  • Student licensing for currently-registered students at Cornell University.
    • Cornell University's student license for MATLAB includes the base application and 17 additional toolboxes.
    • Student licensing must be paid for by personal funds.
    • Installation onto student-owned equipment only.

Additional Toolboxes

If you require a toolbox that is not listed above, please let us know what you need by sending a request to cusoftware@cornell.edu.  Individual single-seat perpetual licenses for additional MATLAB toolboxes and add-ons are available from the vendor at special academic prices. We would put you in touch with an appropriate MathWorks representative to complete the sale.

Purchase a license

Institutional Volume License:

The MATLAB 2013-14 volume license runs through July 31, 2014.  Please note that the end date is the same regardless of the date of purchase.

If you did not pre-order your MATLAB license during our license assessment survey in July, please order your license by visiting:

Licensing Options

Staff & Faculty Licenses

Your MATLAB volume license allows you to install in either a single-user or a network license configuration.  Please note that you need to purchase multiple licenses to take full advantage of the network option.

A single-user license allows installation onto one Cornell-owned computer. If you have been assigned a laptop computer for travel, you may also install MATLAB onto that machine under your single-user license.

Home use: In addition, your MATLAB license allows home use at no additional charge: you may install MATLAB onto your personally-owned equipment under your single-user license. You may not run MATLAB on multiple machines at the same time under one single-user license.

A network license entitles you to install MATLAB on multiple machines on the same subnet, with one designated as a MATLAB license server.  You can then use a MATLAB simultaneously on a number of machines equal to the number of licenses that you purchased.

Student Licenses

Student licenses are only available in a single-user configuration. Installation is authorized for a single computer that is the personal property of the licensed student.

Download

Note about file format:  The vendor has provided the software to us in ISO format, which is an industry-standard disk image format.  While Windows 8, Mac OS X, Solaris, and most Linux distributions will automatically recognize this format, Windows 7 and earlier do not.  For instructions on how to use this format, please see our guide "How To Work With ISO Files."  Also note that if you choose to burn the ISO file to disk, you will need a double-layer recordable DVD (DVD-R DL 8.4 GB) and an optical drive that supports writing double-layer DVDs.

Full Installer: MATLAB, Simulink, plus all licensed toolboxes:

These installer files are each approximately 7 GB in size:

Earlier releases:

Selected earlier releases of MATLAB are available to current license holders upon request.

This software is licensed to Cornell University and its use is strictly limited to subscribed Cornell faculty and staff at the main campus and affiliate facilities.
