Note to personnel at the Qatar campus: Cornell's MATLAB license does not currently cover personnel based in locations outside of the United States and its territories. This means that personnel at the Weill Cornell Medical College campus in Qatar are not eligible for this license. We are investigating options to extend our license to cover the Qatar campus. We apologize for any inconvenience.
MATLAB is a numerical computing environment and programming language. We currently two licenses, both with the same set of 49 additional extensions and toolboxes. MATLAB licensing is fee-based.
01-Oct-2015: MATLAB 2015b is now available to all current subscribers. All subscribers now have the option to download MATLAB either from our local servers of from MathWorks directly. Please note that downloading MATLAB from the MathWorks server via the Cornell network may be subject to NUBB charges.
10-Jul-2015: MATLAB has been renewed for the 2015-16 license term. Student licenses now have access to the same set of extensions and toolboxes that had been available only to Academic licenses.
The following products are available under the current license.
All toolboxes are available for Windows (32- & 64-bit), Mac OS X (Intel 64-bit), and Linux 64-bit unless otherwise noted.
Academic Licensees: If you require a toolbox that is not listed above, please let us know what you need by sending a request to email@example.com. Individual single-seat perpetual licenses for additional MATLAB toolboxes and add-ons are available from the vendor at special academic prices. We would put you in touch with an appropriate MathWorks representative to complete the sale.
Additional toolboxes cannot be added to the MATLAB student license. If you are a student and need to use a toolbox that is not included with the student license, we recommend that you work with your department to see if they can purchase the additional toolbox for installation onto a Cornell-owned computer that you could use.
The MATLAB 2015-16 volume license runs through July 31, 2016. Please note that the end date is the same regardless of the date of purchase.
If you did not pre-order your MATLAB license during our license assessment survey in July, please order your license by visiting:
Your MATLAB volume license allows you to install in either a single-user or a network license configuration. Please note that you need to purchase multiple licenses to take full advantage of the network option.
A single-user license allows installation onto one Cornell-owned computer. If you have been assigned a laptop computer for travel, you may also install MATLAB onto that machine under your single-user license.
Home use: In addition, your MATLAB license allows home use at no additional charge: you may install MATLAB onto your personally-owned equipment under your single-user license. You may not run MATLAB on multiple machines at the same time under one single-user license.
A network license entitles you to install MATLAB on multiple machines on the same subnet, with one designated as a MATLAB license server. You can then use a MATLAB simultaneously on a number of machines equal to the number of licenses that you purchased.
Student licenses are only available in a single-user configuration. Installation is authorized for a single computer that is the personal property of the licensed student.
All customers now have the option to download MATLAB directly from the manufacturer. Please be advised that downloading MATLAB from MathWorks via the Cornell Network may be subject to NUBB charges.
Note: Disk Image installers have all MATLAB components on the disk image, and are downloaded from on-campus servers. For instructions on how to use ISO disk image files, please see our online guide, How To Use ISO Files.
* MATLAB 2015b is the final MATLAB release for 32-bit Windows.
Selected earlier releases of MATLAB are available to current license holders upon request.
This software is licensed to Cornell University and its use is strictly limited to subscribed Cornell faculty and staff at the main campus and affiliate facilities.
