How to Register a Device without a Browser

Use this procedure to register a device that does not have a browser, for example a video game console or a cable box. Cornell University Policy 5.7, Network Registry, requires registration of all devices connected to the network.

To register, you will use a device that DOES have a browser to enter your NetID and the hardware (MAC) address for your browser-less device.

Register a device without a browser

  1. Using a device that does have a web browser, go to
    http://dnsdb.cit.cornell.edu/dnsdb-cgi/wireless_device.cgi
    to enter your information.
  2. When prompted, enter your NetID and password, then click OK. The Cornell Network Registration screen appears.
  3. Enter the hardware (MAC) address and a description (such as "Bob's Xbox") for your device.
    enter_mac_address
  4. Click Click here to register this wireless device.
  5. Check the information on the Registration screen, then click Register. You'll see a confirmation screen.

Your registration is valid for one year. When it is about to expire, you will receive an email message reminding you to re-register.

NOTE: Because every device has a unique hardware address, you must register each device you use on the network individually.
