RedRover is Cornell's Wi-Fi service. Using RedRover, you can connect a computer or portable electronic device with Wi-Fi capability to the Internet. Two RedRover services are available on campus.
RedRover-Secure is recommended and is required for certain types of systems and data. University IT Policy 5.10, The Security of Electronic University Administrative Information interim policy states: "Any system holding or accessing confidential (level 1) information that uses a campus wireless connection must use RedRover-Secure, or a departmental wireless network with equivalent or stronger security (authentication required, encrypted transmission)."
RedRover-Secure (recommended) provides fast, secure connections for all individuals with NetIDs. RedRover-Secure encrypts the Wi-Fi portions of data transmission, and is therefore the most secure choice. RedRover-Secure is also available at Weill Medical College.
RedRover is Cornell's original Wi-Fi service. It is a non-secure service, so it is best used only at times when RedRover-Secure is not an option. If you do use RedRover, be aware that your data transmissions could be intercepted by others.
Setting up RedRover-Secure will also get you ready to use RedRover.
If you do not have a NetID, and would like to use the Wi-Fi network while visiting campus, select the RedRover network. A brief visitor registration is required the first time you connect. If you will be visiting for an extended stay, speak with your department host about obtaining a Sponsored NetID.
