NUBB Fees and Billing

NUBB is based on a monthly usage threshold for determining billing. Internet usage beyond the monthly billing threshold will incur a usage-based fee.  The monthly billing threshold only applies to network traffic that goes out to the wide area network (WAN), which comprises the Internet.  Cornell-to-Cornell, NLR, and Internet 2 (research) traffic incurs NO cost and does not count towards Internet usage.

Internet usage beyond the monthly billing threshold will incur charges as follows:

  • $0.0015 per Megabyte.
  • There is a $100 cap on all monthly bills.

For Cornell Students:

  • NUBB Billing Threshold:  50 Gigabytes (beginning July 1, 2011)
  • NUBB applies to both RedRover Wi-Fi  and Wired Network connections.
  • Internet usage is tracked as the combined total of all wired and Wi-Fi usage added together, including all IP addresses attached to each student.

For Faculty, Staff, & Other Non-Students:

  • Beginning July 1, 2011, NUBB is no longer used for the IP billing management of connections used by staff, faculty, and other non-students.  Historical data through the end of FY11 will remain available to network administrators and billing coordinators.

Billing

NUBB charges for students are billed to their Bursar account each month.

Additional Information

Regarding student status:  Student status is determined by whether or not an individual's status with the university is officially recorded as a Cornell student.  Individuals who may be students at other schools or institutions, but whose Cornell status is not recorded as a student (such as visiting fellows or summer program attendees), will be treated as a non-student (the same as faculty and staff) for purposes of NUBB.
