How to Resolve Connection Issues: Windows 7

Windows Vista will automatically create a new network connection when you plug in the Ethernet cable.

  1. start_btnFrom the Start menu, select Control Panel.
  2. Click Network and Internet, and then click View Network Status and Tasks.
  3. Under View your active networks, click Local Area Connection.
  4. In the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box, click Properties
  5. Select Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and click Properties. The Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) Properties dialog box appears.
    • Select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Then, click OK.
  6. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties. The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties dialog box appears.
    • Select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Then, click OK.
  7. Click OK or Close to return to the Network and Internet window.
  8. Close the Network and Internet window.
  9. Open an Internet browser (such as Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Explorer).
  10. Go to the Cornell Network registration page. (This page may load automatically.)
  11. Complete the online registration.
