How to Resolve Connection Issues: Windows Vista

Windows Vista will automatically create a new network connection when you plug in the Ethernet cable.

  1. start_btnFrom the Start menu, select Connect to.
  2. Click Open Network and Sharing Center. The Network and Sharing Center window appears.
  3. Locate the Network connection (Local Area Connection), and click View status. The Local Area Connection Status dialog box appears.
  4. Click Properties. If an account control message box appears, click Continue. The Local Area Connection Properties dialog box appears.
  5. Select Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and click Properties. The Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) Properties dialog box appears.
    • Select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Then, click OK.
  6. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties. The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties dialog box appears.
    • Select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Then, click OK.
  7. Click OK or Close to return to the Network and Sharing Center window.
  8. Close the Network and Sharing Center window.
  9. Open an Internet browser (such as Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Explorer).
  10. Go to the Cornell Network registration page. (This page may load automatically.)
  11. Complete the online registration.
