Introduction

University Policy Statement

Cornell University prohibits the smoking or carrying of lighted cigars, cigarettes or pipes in all indoor facilities, enclosed bus stops and university-owned or controlled vehicles, except in special situations defined in the policy. The policy further states that: [smoking is prohibited] "within twenty-five feet of the entrance to any university-owned or controlled building".

CIT Implementation

Overview

To comply with this university policy, we have relocated all cigarette disposal devices to areas that are more than 25 feet from all building entrances at CCC, Rhodes Hall and both 110 and 120 Maple Avenue. "No Smoking" signs have been posted near each building entrance as a reminder to staff and visitors.

Process/Procedures

Although it has long been a provision of the university smoking policy, we also remind staff that smoking is not allowed in any of our CIT-owned vehicles at any time.

For those staff who supervise student employees or deal with external vendors or contract employees, we ask that you distribute a copy of this information to them or inform them of the university policy.
